This program structure is foundational in nature and is supported with practical tools for the Revert Muslim who is in the process of navigating the elemental aspects of an Islamic lifestyle and who is desirous of implementing the required adaptations according to the path of Shi’a Islam.

Year 1: Foundations of Faith and Beliefs |
Year 1 builds the essential foundation of Islamic understanding. Students explore core beliefs in God, divine justice, prophethood, and Imamate through structured lessons in Shi‘i theology. The course material is supplemented with a deeper study of the origins of Shi'a Islam, faith and practices. The year culminates with a lecture series dedicated to an aspect of self-awareness. Practical guidance related to ritual purity, daily prayers and etiquette for everyday life is provided in a resource format. Year 1 sets the theological tone for the entire program. **No previous formal Islamic education is required for this program. |

Year 2: Knowledge, Legacy, and Self-Discipline |
Year 2 initiates with a focus on the importance of seeking knowledge and then transitions to lessons on God's Divine Revelation. Program studies will continue with a deep dive into the rich history of Shi'a Islam—beginning with the Age of Ignorance and ending with the life of the 12th Imam (as). Explore essential concepts of Imamah, while also cultivating an understanding of The Self as the lessons shift focus inward toward personal development. **Prerequisite: GCK Year 1 |

Year 3: Tawheed, Spiritual Aspects of Salat, Family, and Death |
Year 3 guides students through an advanced journey of spiritual insight, as it relates to the concept of Tawheed and practical readiness for the era of Imam Mahdi (a). It deepens one's understanding of knowing Allah and establishing a firm connection with the Almighty through the ritual prayer. Students will gain essential wisdom for family building, kinship, and raising a generation prepared for divine service in challenging times. This year blends theology with practical tarbiyah to shape committed, conscious believers. The course will conclude with lessons on death and its rites, and the Resurrection. **Prerequisite: GCK Year 2 |

Course Information
Program
The Gateway to the City of Knowledge is a three-year program intended to provide students with a solid foundation in Shi’i principles and practices. Completion of all three years establishes a firm understanding of Shi'a Islam, but students are not obligated to complete all levels. Upon successful completion of each year, students will receive a certificate of completion and may decide whether to continue.
Course Structure
The program consists of a series of pre-recorded lectures, readings, and discussions carefully designed under the supervision of Sh. Dr. Mohammad Ali Shomali. The content focuses on the roots of religion and practical spirituality, using lectures and publications authored by H.I. Dr. Shomali.
- Core courses must be completed to meet program requirements.
- Supplementary resources support the learning experience.
- Curriculum is term-based.
- Workload: approximately 1–3 hours of independent study per week.

Mubahatha (Discussions)
Year One
Students listen to assigned lectures or complete readings, followed by weekly discussions with a coordinator who will:
- Respond to questions
- Offer clarifications
- Add further details to enhance the learning process
Discussions may be scheduled across different time zones to meet the needs of the students. Students may ask questions on both current and previous course material.
Attendance and Participation (Year One)
Attendance in Mubahatha sessions is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged due to the intellectual and social benefits for both students and coordinators.
Years Two and Three
Students are encouraged to engage in weekly peer discussions in a small group setting. Attendance will be graded in Year Two.
Evaluations
- Year One: Quizzes throughout the year to reinforce content and highlight areas for review.
- Year Two: An exam and a reflection assignment to support the learning process. Mubahatha attendance and participation will be graded.
- Year Three: Quizzes, or exams, or reflection assignments, or a term paper to deepen understanding of a core subject.
